ABOUT

Born in 1990, Mercedes Semino lives and works in Paris. Graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2018, her practice turns to painting, drawing and sculpture.

Mercedes Semino creates real architectural frescoes, whose figures also evoke temporality. In her work, however, they are not natural patterns, but human constructions, which have become vestiges. The forms are minimalist, in a surrealist space, reminding the landscapes of Chirico. The staircases, pillars, and foundations interrogate and immerse us in a forgotten world.

Fascinated by architecture, Mercedes gives us a reflection on the human appropriation of space, challenged by time; her paintings are also as if they have passed through time: their grainy texture reminds us of an ancient fresco that has been forgotten.
